the Blog
This is a personal blog (part travel guide, part food log, part cautionary tale) about the adventures of a college student who likes living in places more than she likes visiting them. (“transitory residence” is a play on “temporary residence”, as in the temporary residence permit that she never got in France.)
Currently, her blogging concerns revolve around:
- trying to make sense of different cultures she’s been exposed to, especially when they’re in the news
- money: how to make it, how best to spend it, and how to invest and save it
- finding out what her true goals in life are, and how to reach them
Please excuse the occasional use of swear words and foreign languages. There is a ‘Dictionaries’ section in the toolbar on the right-hand side of this blog if you need it. And if you are deeply offended by the swearing, I am deeply sorry that you lack a sense of humor.
the Girl
b is a Filipino-American who considers herself more American than Filipino, and probably more international than either. As a (very) little kid she lived in Manila and New York City, and for grades 1-12 she lived in Jersey City, NJ but switched schools pretty often in the meantime. As a junior in high school, she ran off to Japan for a year. She did a repeat performance of that as a junior in college, this time in France (but a series of mishaps culminated in her staying only seven months). After four plus years at Stanford, she’s now in the real world looking for a job. If that doesn’t happen, she’d like to join the Peace Corps.
She’s interested in foreign languages, singing, vegetarianism, and making blogs like this one. Used to be pre-med, but has settled for knowing Wilderness First Aid and will tackle Médecins Sans Frontières at a later date. Her dream is to become a Japanese rock star, which doesn’t require much talent but does require an insane amount of charisma and a rail-thin physique, neither of which she currently possesses. (She’s working on it.)
